The Very Nervous System (VNS) is a device that allows you to extract motion from live video images in real-time. The images can be divided into up to 240 regions, each of any shape and size. Each region can be analyzed separately, and can trigger and/or modulate a unique event or set of events (eg. sounds, imagery, animations, robotic motions). While it was originally designed using specialized hardware, nowadays it runs entirely in software (softVNS). The Very Nervous System has been used in various interactive installations and dance shows.
The Very Nervous System was developed by David Rokeby in Canada. For more information, go to the VNS web page. |
